Safer Streets and More Transit

Like many who walk or cycle to get around the streets of Cambridge, I have had too many close calls to count. People who ride bicycles, roll on wheelchairs, walk, or take public transportation should be entitled to the same freedom and sense of safety on the roads and streets of Cambridge as motorists. Year after year, we fall short of our Vision Zero commitments.

We must make our streets safe--by completing the Cycling Safety Ordinance, by calming our streets, and by improving pedestrian walkways and street crossings. Participatory Budgeting results this year clearly demonstrated that our neighbors want traffic-calming measures like speed humps in the neighborhoods.

If I am elected to the Cambridge City Council, I will prioritize the safety of walkers, cyclists, and rollers. I will push to listen to the professionals in our traffic department in pursuit of more cost-effective safety infrastructure, expanded sidewalks, improved vehicle sight-lines, and fostering our transit network (including MBTA lines, organization shuttles, and neighborhood circulators like the TMA EZRide).

These goals will help make our city safer, greener, and more livable.
